Help keep our troops warm and comfortable
The Yarn Boutique is joining yarn stores in the Bay Area and throughout the U.S. to ensure that all of the troops being deployed to Afghanistan and other cold-weather spots have wool liners for their helmets. Afghan winters are brutal, and the wool liners really help keep the soldiers warm. This project is easy for most knitters, and a wonderful learning project for beginners. We are, of course, always happy to help you learn the skills you need for this and any other projects you purchase at our store.
We have patterns available (or you can download one of several on Ravelry or elsewhere online), and plenty of Cascade 220, Galway, and Naturespun Worsted in approved colors. Purchase any of these yarns at our regular price, and when your liner is finished, bring it back to the store. We’ll give you a $1.00 credit per skein and make sure your finished product gets to one of the organizations delivering them to where they’re needed.
The national goal is to have hand-knit helmet liners for all of the 30,000 troops who will be deployed to Afghanistan. Our goal is to contribute at least 100 of those from our store.
We hope to expand this effort to include other charity knitting projects, including Afghans for Afghans. If you’ve got any suggestions of places or organizations that would appreciate hand-knits, please let us know.
